The 31 year old Asis who is ranked No. 4 featherweight by the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation improved his record to 26-18-4 with 14 knockouts with an impressive 7th round TKO over the 28 year old Yoshida who dropped to 22-4 with 10 knockouts.
In an action-packed fight Asis dropped Yoshida in the opening round and twice in the fateful seventh before referee Adrian Cairns called a halt at 2:29 of the round.
At the time of the stoppage Asis was ahead on the scorecards of all three judges. Phil Austin had the Filipino up by a shutout 60-53, Adam Height by a 59-54 margin and Cyril Cairns by a surprisingly close 57-56.
Well known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis told the Manila Standard that Asis “is an exciting  fighter and full of fire” and reminds him of another hard-hitting Filipino Ranee "KO Kid” Ganoy who is also based in Australia.
Nicknamed “The Assassin” the career of  Asis turned around once he moved to Australia.
The win over Yoshida was his fifth straight after losing a unanimous four rounddecision  to Ryan Langham.
Asis won the Australian light welterweight title with a 1st round knockout of Josh King on May 21, 2011.
His other big win was a 2nd round TKO over world rated Nestor Rocha of Mexico on August 13, 2011.
Yoshida had previously won ten straight fights after losing by a 6th round TKO to Thailand’s Thong
Por Chok Chai in a clash for the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council super featherweight title on August 17, 2007.
