EURO NEWS

By Per-Ake Persson

Argentinian Avenamar Peralta has passed away at the age of 71 in San Justo (Argentina). Peralta compiled a record of around 103-33-15-1 in a career that lasted from 1965 through 1982. From 1970 he was based in Europe fighting all over the continent taking on all comers. During his long career he held the Argentinian, South American and Spanish lightheavyweight titles and was in against the great Victor Galindez five times going 2-3. Other names on his record include Pierre Fourie, Jorge Ahumada, Vicente Rondon, Tom Bethea, John Odhiambo, Jean Pierre Coopmans and Angelo Rottoli. Just like his older brother Gregorio he also moved up to heavyweight but had less success.

Avenamar was also a good trainer working with the likes of EBU lightheavy champ Rudi Koopmans and EBU and WBC superwelter ruler Eckhard Dagge.

Former EBU lightheavy champion Eduard Gutknecht pulled out of his planned comeback October 18 in Salzwedel but it was with bigger and better things in view, writes boxwelt.com. Gutknecht might land a spot on the undercard to Klitschko vs Pulev November 15 in Hamburg.

****************************

Taras Bidenko is out and Brazilian Irineu Beato Costa Junior is the new opponent for WBO # 6 heavyweight Christian Hammer October 31 in Cuxhaven (Germany). Added to the bill is Swedish supermiddle Sven Fornling (3-0) who take on Leo Tchoula (9-8) in a six rounder.

****************************

Former WBO middleweight champ Armand Krajnc stage "Fight Night 6" in Malmoe (Sweden) November 22. Topping the bill is a fight for the vacant Swedish lightweight title between Suro Ismailov (5-1) and Abdu Tebazalwa (12-6). The special rules that applies to professional boxing in Sweden means that the fight is over six rounds and with ten ounce gloves.
