Nieto vs Daws off, Nieto vs Gonzales on

The rematch between Ruben Nieto (17-1) and Lenny Daws (30-4-2) that was tentatively (confirmed by some sources, not by others) set for the undercard to Fury vs Klitschko July 9 is now postponed. Nieto beat Daws on a controversial disqualification in their first fight in December of last year to win the vacant EBU superlightweight title and the EBU ordered an immediate rematch. Purse bids were set for January 18 but then Nieto was injured but in March it was announced Hennessy Sports would stage the rematch but are now apparently not able to.

However as it is now Nieto will make a voluntay defence of the title against Nicolas Gonzales (18-0) in July in either Madrid or Fuenlabrada in an all Spanish matchup promoted by Rimer Boxe. According to espabox.com Nieto vs Gonzales will be the 25th time two Spaniards clash in an EBU title fight. The last time was in 2005 when Ivan Pozo, then flyweight champ, stopped Lahcene Zemmouri in three.

Lenny Daws will the face the winner during the fall.
