Gassiev retained the IBF title, won the vacant WBA super bauble and the semifinal in the WBSS Tournament with a last round stoppage of Dorticos. After eleven it was scored 106-103 twice and 105-104 for Gassiev. The Russian fought a carefully paced fight fighting off the ropes covering up very well. Dorticos came forward and threw many punches but had problems getting through and Gassiev´s heavier but fewer shots was more effective. As the fight progressed Dorticos appeared to slow down but Gassiev didn´t open up and it appeared the fight might slip away from him as he didn´t work hard enough. But in the eleventh he hurt Dorticos for real and the Cuban had to hold on. The writing was on the wall and a big left hook floored Dorticos in the last round but he somehow got up but was floored again - and should have been stopped but a third knockdown followed before it was stopped at 2.52.
