Sven Fornling

Dec 15, Hamburg, GER, Hamburger Sporthalle, EC Boxing / Michael Wollenberg, bdb
Sven Fornling, 79,3, Ger  W12-U  Karo Murat, 79,0, Ger
Fornling won the IBO title after a dramatic fight that saw both floored. Sven knocked down the careless Murat with a straight right in the first. Murat was straight up and smiled - and it was indeed a flash knockdown. Late in the round he knocked down Fornling after "break" had been called and no action was taken. In the second Murat poured it on for real and willingly traded punches with his opponent who was hurt by left hooks. However, after that Murat faded, stopped using his left and a few rounds later it was obvious he was fighting with one arm. Fornling built a lead with Murat just using his right but late in the fight Karo upped the pace, the Swede tired and was moving too much and not holding on. In round 11 Murat had a point deducted after a punch behind the head and then in the final round Fornling more or less collapsed and Murat hurt him with his right and knocked him down. Fornling was out on his feet and ready to go - but Murat had nothing left and Fornling won on scores of 116-109 and 115-110 twice.
12x3, h: Christian Hammer, Ger  KO 5  Michael Wallisch, Ger
Wallisch, managed by Wollenberg, proved to be nothing much once in with a decent opponent. Hammer took his time, showed his experience, picked his shots and Wallish quickly fell apart. In the fourth there was an accidental clash of heads and it appeared the fight had been stopped but after a long discussion among officials the action resumed. In the fifth Wallish broke out of what he thought was "break" but got nailed by a right and sat down against the ropes and was counted out - he had nothing left. This was for the WBO Euro title.
