April 21, Copenhagen, DEN, Fredriksbergshallerne, Danish Fight Night (Mogens Palle)
Final show for Mogens Palle after 65 years in the business. The event began with a Denmark vs Belgium international and the Danes went 4-0.
12x3: Enock Poulsen, 63,2, Den W12-U Franck Petitjean, 63,2, Fra
Poulsen won the vacant EBU title on scores of 114-113 twice and 116-113 after a foul filled ill tempered fight. Poulsen boxed on the move, countering well with Petitjean constantly attacking. After a quiet first round Poulsen suddenly turned his back to action, sat down and turned to his corner, who stepped into the ring and fixed his dislocated right shoulder. There was no visible ruling from the referee and the fight was waved back on. Poulsen won rounds while Petitjean kept coming. The Frenchman was tough on the inside to put it mildly. In the eighth a not so accidental clash of heads left Poulsen cut on the forehead and in the ninth he sat down and took a count either to fix his shoulder or because of another headbutt or both. Petitjean was by now fighting a streetfight but Poulsen pulled it together and finished the fight strongly. Team Petitjean was unhappy with the decision and how the referee handled the action - and while Team Poulsen got the win the referee could well have taken action against Petitjean for all his streetfighting.
10x2: Sarah Mahfoud, 56,5, Den W10-U Nina Meinke, 56,6, Ger
Mahfoud retained the IBF female featherweight title on scores of 97-93 twice and 96-94. Meinke kept coming and seemed to take over the fight in the sixth and seventh. However, Mahfoud, trained by Bernard Checa, put it together in the final three rounds outboxing her physically stronger opponent
10x3: Oliver Meng, 68,8, Den W10-U Eslin Owusu, 69,1, US
Meng won the vacant WBC Youth title on scores of 98-92 on all cards after a fastpaced good all southpaw fight. Osuwu's right hook found the mark quite often but Meng's chin held up well. No knockdowns and Meng's workrate and better conditioning won it for him.
8x3: Kem Ljungqvist, 104,5, Den KO 6 (1.34) Vyacheslav Zhyvotyagin, 103,0, Ukr
Ljungqvist, a southpaw, was visible stunned after a right in the second and looked exhausted at the end of the round. But he came back and in the fourth he floored his opponent with a left. Both looked tired by now and in the sixth Kem finished his opponent with a picture perfect left uppercut to the body and it was ten and out for the Ukrainian.
4x3: Heva Sharif, 67,2, Den W4-U Sebastien Saciri, 66,2, Ser
40-36 twice and 39-37. Sharif didn't impress in a close fight.with no highlights. Saciri looked soft and much smaller.
