Lithuania’s Youth Olympic Games winner and European Youth Champion, 20-year-old Evaldas Petrauskas, who won the AIBA European Olympic Qualifying Event Trabzon 2012, is now just one win away from a podium finish at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The stocky orthodox fighter is one of the big success stories of the AIBA Road to London Program with the promising boxer now so close to be able to engrave his name in the pages of Olympic history. He was part of the AIBA funded three-week training camp in Cardiff in the build-up to these Games and he is proving just how valuable this initiative is for the development of the sport worldwide.

Petrauskas began his Olympic adventure by eliminating Hungary’s European Championships bronze medallist Miklos Varga and continued his fine form by defeating Turkey’s European Champion Fatih Keles in the second round of preliminaries. The young Lithuanian hope now faces Italy's 2009 AIBA World Champion Domenico Valentino in what promises to be one explosive bout with a real clash of styles.

Namibia’s Beijing Olympian and Commonwealth Games quarter-finalist Mujandjae Kasuto, also involved with the AIBA Road to London Program opened with a great victory against Tajikistan’s Sobirdzhon Nazarov on Saturday but was unfortunately on the losing side on day six of the competition at the Olympic Games. Kasuto, a soldier in the army, was said to have been delighted with the training camp and that he was now a much better boxer and a richer human being for having been part on the biggest show on earth. Kasuto was humble and wished Hungary’s Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Zoltan Harcsa the best of luck for the rest of the tournament.

Serbia’s multiple-National Champion Aleksandar Drenovak surprisingly advanced to the Middleweight (75kg) quarter-finals at the last AIBA World Boxing Championships and qualified for these Olympics and as a result was also in the Welsh capital to prepare for the competition. Drenovak was unfortunate to come up against an inspired Adem Kilicci but was valiant in defeat.
