David Price produced another dominant display to stop Matt Skelton in the second

David Price continued his march towards a possible world heavyweight title shot with a ruthless second-round destruction of Matt Skelton in Liverpool.

The unbeaten Price has been making a habit of ending his fights very quickly and another hugely impressive display ensured he retained his British and Commonwealth titles without much fuss.

The 6ft 8in Scouser took just 82 seconds to beat Audley Harrison in October but the 45-year-old veteran Skelton is a tougher proposition and actually made a decent start.

However, Price soon found his stride and, once he began to land his blows, it became apparent that Skelton was really up against it.

Skelton did well to make it to the end of the first round and then somehow managed to stay on his feet when Price connected with a brutal combination at the start of the second.

In a show of bravado, Skelton lifted both arms to the skies in defiance but, although he survived that barrage, another was soon on the way.

Attacking relentlessly, Price forced his man into the corner of the ring and then unleashed a series of clubbing blows to the body, first with his right and then with his left.

Skelton slumped towards the ground under the onslaught and it did not take long for the referee to decide he had suffered enough and bring the fight to a halt.
