Price vacates British and Commonwealth titles to focus on rebuilding his career

By Martin Domin  -  dailymail.co.uk

David Price has relinquished his British and Commonwealth titles in a bid to rebuild his career following successive defeats to Tony Thompson.

The Liverpool heavyweight, who makes his return to the ring in Germany on Saturday week, had been due to face mandatory challenger Dereck Chisora in February.

But Price will instead focus on moving up the world rankings

The 30-year-old also had a mandatory challenger for his Commonwealth strap in Australian Lucas Browne.

He remains confident, however, that he can still become a world champion.

’I am extremely proud to have been British and Commonwealth champion,' said Price. 'I have some fantastic memories of some great nights winning and defending both belts.

'Now the time is right for me to move in a different direction in order to rebuild my career and achieve my ultimate goal of becoming heavyweight world champion.

'As for the fight with Derek, this is something that really interests me and I’d hope it has the potential to be made later next year.'

Price won the British and Commonwealth belts against Sam Sexton in 2012 and defended them successfully against Audley Harrison and Sam Sexton.
