A family is in shock today after the passing away of their beloved son earlier this morning.

36 year old professional Boxer, Zulfikaar Joy Ali passed away at the CWM Hospital at 1.30am.

Ali’s father, Farzan Ali who was also his trainer says his family is still trying to come in terms with what has happened and that he has lost his favorite son.

“He worked really hard in boxing. He agreed to box when I sent him to come and see a promotion here in Suva. When he returned after the promotion I was sitting at the door of my house waiting for him. He told me that daddy now I am going to become a boxer and bit all these boxers which I saw tonight (that night) and that was the starting of boxing for Joy Ali. My mother in law stopped me saying that this boy doesn’t want to be a boxer but when I saw his face I knew that this boy was going to be a very good boxer and will go as far as world title bout.”

Joy had fought 51 professional bought winning 31, 26 by knock out, losing 13 fights while 6 matches ended in a draw.

Ali was once ranked 13th in the world.

Ali is survived by his wife and three children.

Ali’s family are making arrangements for his body to be taken to the West so that the funeral can take place today.
