EURO NEWS

boxing-heute.de have an interview with promoter Ahmet Oener and Oener says the oft postponed rematch between heavyweights Odlanier Solis and Tony Thompson will go ahead February 27 in Budapest. A Cuba vs America matchup in Hungary doesn’t seem natural but Oener is convinced his local partners will get it together.

Solis vs Thompson II was first on for October 18 in Duesseldorf but was then postponed after Solis was injured in training and a new date was tentatively set for November 22 but was then re-scheduled for January 24.

Thompson won the first fight in March 2014 with a split decision over Solis but the talk was all about how the talented Cuban appeared to blow it with his lazy attitude.

Jan 20: EBU cruiserweight champion Rakhim Chahkhiev (19-1) will make a voluntary defence agains Pole Lukasz Janik (29-2) March 21 or March 28 in Moscow. Janik was previously mandatory challenger for the EU title but will now lose that position.

Jan 21: Today’s announcement from the EBU reads that the fight is off and was probably never on at least according to Janik’s management.

EBU lightweight champion Emiliano Marsili (30-0-1) will still go through with a voluntary defence of the title January 24 but the opponent is now Hungarian Gyorgy Miszei (21-11) after Antonio De Vitis pulled out due to illness. Miszei was also Marsili’s opponent in September and Marsili won on a unanimous decision on scores of 116-113 twice and 118-116.

French superfeather champ Samir Ziani (17-2-1) defends the title against Sebastien Cornu (13-12-3) January 30 in Blagnac. Ziani was last seen fighting in Copenhagen against the touted Richard Commey (19-0) and appeared to have done enough to win it but the judges had it otherwise.

Stylewise Ziani is all about relentless agression and hard work at a fast pace. He´s currently ranked # 6 by the EBU and should be able to move up the ratings.

Cruiserweight Nuri Seferi (36-6) is in the final stages of his preparations in Hamburg for his WBO eliminator against Krzysztof Glowacki (23-0) January 31 in Torun (Poland) and his now sparring with former WBC champ Juan Carlos Gomez. Gomez is like Glowacki a southpaw and brings tons of experience to the table.
