EURO NEWSBy Per-Ake Persson EBU lightweight champion Edis Tatli (25-1) will make a voluntary defence of the title early September in Helsinki. Opponent is to be announced. Tatli (pictured) has been sidelined with a hand injury since winning the title in April against Yvan Mendy but is now ready to go again. The hand was injured in training but Edis went through with the Mendy fight anyway and came through a clear winner. Tatli’s sole loss came against WBA champ Richar Abril. **************************** Heavyweight Aleksander Dimitrenko (35-2) continues his comeback on the undercard to Ruslan Chagaev vs Francesco Pianeta July 11 in Magdeburg and square off against Hungarian Zoltan Csala (8-2). Dimitrenko, now 32, returned late in May after over two years out. **************************** The fight for the vacant EU middleweight title between Karim Achour (19-4-3) and Moez Fhima (23-3-2) that was set for July 10 will now go ahead October 3 in Compiegne (France). Achour vs Fhima is now promoted by Boxing Club Olympique de Pont Ste Maxence - Achour´s promoter. **************************** Rudy “El Lobo Negro” Encarnacion (34-23-4) and Alex Miskirtchian (25-3-1) clash for the vacant EBU featherweight title July 24 in Spain on a Maravilla Box Promotion. Encarnacion vs Miskirtchian is an exellent matchup between two tough, experienced fighters. As for Encarnacion’s record, well, that´s what happens when you fight on the road in all possible weight divisions. The title was left vacant by Josh Warrington. **************************** Bantamweight Zhanat Zhakiyanov (25-1) has relinquished his position as official challenger for the vacant EBU title to go for a World title. Zhakiyanov is highly ranked by all major organisations but which title he has set his sight on isn´t announced yet. The other challenger for the vacant title is Stephane Jamoye (28-6). The title was left vacant by Lee Haskins, who of course went on to win a World title. **************************** EU welter champ Ahmed El Mousaoui (25-1-1) makes a voluntary defence of the title July 4 in Paris against Hungarian Laszlo Toth (20-1-1). El Mousaoui won the title with a close and disputed win over Junior Whitter. **************************** Bilal Laggoune (19-0-1) and Dmytro Kucher (23-1) fight for the vacant EBU cruiser title October 9 in Gent (Belgium) on a show promoted by International Boxing Event. The title was left vacant by Rahkim Chahkhiev. **************************** EBU flyweight champion Kevin Satchell (14-0) will after all get to defend the title at home in the UK against mandatory challenger Thomas Masson (13-3-1). The story is that Boxing Club Bruaysien won purse bids for the right to stage the fight with a bid for 33 785,00 Euro while Queensferry bid 25 000,00 Euro and had planned to stage the fight July 18 in Bruay la Buissiere. However, due to TV problems the promoter wanted to postpone it until September 12. This was not accepted by the EBU Council and Queensferry was asked to take over the fight providing they would also accept the winning purse bid offer. Queensferry accepted and have notified the EBU that Satchell vs Masson will go ahead July 24 on the big show at the SSE Arena, Wembley. **************************** 19-year old supermiddle Vincent Feigenbutz (19-1, 18) take on 38-year old Mauricio Reynoso (15-1-1) for the vacant WBA interim title in the chief support to Arthur Abraham vs Robert Stieglitz July 18 in Halle / Westfalen. Reynoso lost to Jamie Barboza in 2012 for his sole loss and returned earlier this year and won a four rounder. Feigenbutz is ranked # 7 by the WBA while Reynoso is # 8. **************************** IBF cruiser champ Yoan Pablo Hernandez (29-1) returns July 25 in Buenos Aires with a defence against interim ruler Victor Emilio Ramirez (22-2). Hernandez has been out since beating Firat Arslan in August of last year due and have three fights in three years due to injures and illness. Ramirez lost to Marco Huck in 2009 - a bit controversially to some - and was out until 2013 but have since made a strong comeback and became interim champ by beating Ola Afola. Per-Åke Persson |
