EURO NEWSBy Per-Ake Persson Igor Michalkin’s defence of the EBU lightheavyweight title against Hakim Chioui (27-4) that was set for February 28 is now postponed until March 14 with site remaining Charleville Mezieres (France). Michalkin (15-1) is promoted by EC Boxing in Hamburg and EC won the purse bids to stage the fight but the fight still landed in France after negotiations with Club Sportif Nouzonville Ardennes. ************************* Romanian Florin Cardos (13-0) take on Spaniard Jorge Fortea (11-0-1) February 21 in Cluj Napoca (Romania) with the vacant WBC Mediterranean welterweight title at stake. Cardos (pictured) has been a pro since 2009 and up until last year he fought on the undercards on shows in Hungary and Germany. Superwelter Victor Lupo (19-2-2) returns home makes his hometown debut in a featured bout on the undercard. Lupo has fought exclusively in Canada. Also on the bill is heavyweight Lucian Bot (16-1-1). French middleweight Frank Mezaache was set to fight on the show but is now out. ************************* Venetis Promotion stage what promises to be a giant show - at least quantity wise - February 28 in Hamburg. On top of the bill middleweight Sebastian Formella (7-0) clash with Pietro D´Alesio (11-19-1) for the vacant GBC I/C title and Omar Jatta (15-9-1) is in against Dominik Ameri (11-19-1) for the vacant GBC world title. American heavyweight Trevor Bryan (12-0) fights on the undercard that might swell up to around 20 fights. Some of booked fighters might drop out though and one of them is "the eternal debutant", Dane Robert Larsen, who had his prodebut announced around 2002 and have since been on for his first time a number times but always pulled out for one reason or another. One fighter that won't be on the show but was planned to fight for the first time since 2004 was Hasan Al (32-1-3). Al drew with Carlos Baldomir in Copenhagen back in 2001 but most observers felt he won clearly. Baldomor won the rematch without a doubt and while Hasan kept winning things went wrong and after a serious neck injury in 2004 when Al was based in the US and managed by Steve Tannenbaum he left boxing but is now back in full training. The 38-year old still needs some more time to get back in shape though. The show in Hamburg is sanctioned by the GBA, the German Boxing Association. GBC stands for Global Boxing Council.
