Gone in 82 seconds: David Price knocks out Audley Harrison in double-quick time to retain British and Commonwealth titlesPower-punching Scouser needed less than two minutes to render former Olympic champion Harrison unconscious with a devastating knockout performanceIt was billed as the toughest test of Liverpudlian David Price's career, and the six foot nine former Olympian passed the test in super-quick time, knocking out Audley Harrison inside two minutes at the Echo Arena. Harrison came into the bout knowing this was his final shot at the big time after a series of disappointing displays. But despite arriving in peak condition and showing signs of positivity in the early few seconds of the bout, Harrison was powerless to stop what came next. A huge right hand from Price rocked the Londoner, whose legs went almost immediately. Then Price, who had knocked out 11 of his 13 opponents prior to this bout, swarmed all over the dazed Harrison and landed a series of huge, accurate and extremely powerful shots to his head. The final shot, a clean right, sent Harrison to the canvas, knocking him out before he hit the floor.
The bout's finish was spectacular, but as a contest it was a huge disappointment, with fans booing Harrison after he eventually got back to his feet. But, unlike his capitulation against David Haye, Harrison looked like he came to fight, but was stopped before he could settle in. In his post-fight interview Price just said he "could do with a few more rounds". The problem for Price - and for his promoter Frank Maloney - is Price's punch power, which ended the fight barely before the Scouser had warmed up. "That punch would have knocked out any fighter in the world," reflected Price - and it's hard to disagree. After another impressive display, possible fights with the Klitschkos could be on the menu, but talk at ringside suggested 45-year-old Matt Skelton could be next up for Price, who looks ready for a world title shot. Whether the Klitschkos would fancy stepping into the ring with power-punching Price, however, is another matter. Source: www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing/david-price-takes-just-82-1378552 |
