Champion Quigg determined to shine in front of home fans against hard-hitting SilvaScott Quigg has a point to prove when he defends his WBA super-bantamweight title against Diego Silva on Saturday just weeks after battling to a draw in his first defence. Raring to go: Scott Quigg (left) faces Diego Silva on the undercard of Carl Froch's clash with George Groves The Bury fighter was disappointed not to get the victory when Yoandris Salinas gave him all he could handle in London last month before the judges ruled their bout a majority draw. That result tarnished Quigg's celebrations after being upgraded from 'interim' champion to outright belt-holder by the WBA but the unassuming 25-year-old sees Saturday's fight on the Carl Froch v George Groves undercard in Manchester as the ideal chance to make a statement. 'It's good to be getting back out there early to make a defence of my title after the Salinas fight,' said Quigg. 'I had three days off after that fight and was back in the gym because I knew straight away that I had the chance to fight on this bill. I jumped at the chance to defend my title so close to my home fans. I'm really excited. 'It was a bit of a strange night against Salinas. 'I knew what sort of opponent he was and what I had to do to beat him and on the night I felt I won by two rounds. I stuck to the gameplan and thought I should have got the result. At the end of the day it was a majority draw so I'm still the world champion and now we move onto this fight. 'Salinas was dangerous, a vastly experienced amateur who was unbeaten and signed to Golden Boy, America's biggest promoters, so we knew he was world class. So I proved to myself I can deal with guys at that level and out-think and out-smart fighters like that. It gave me confidence, if anything.' Quigg added: 'I couldn't have a better platform to go out and make a statement now. 'This is a dangerous fight. Diego Silva is a really tough opponent. He's got a big punch, he's unorthodox and very aggressive. I've left no stone unturned in training.' Quigg has one eye on bigger and better things in 2014 with higher-profile fights and unification bouts on his radar. And the unbeaten fighter (26-0-2, 19KOs) is happy to travel the globe to make those showdowns happen. 'If you can bring the fights to your own country it makes more sense,' he said. 'But at the same time everyone wants to have big fights in Las Vegas and places like that. It's a box you want to tick.' Quigg is joined on the impressive card by the likes of Luke Campbell, Jamie McDonnell, Stephen Smith, Anthony Crolla and Kal Yafai at the Manchester Arena.
