EURO NEWSBy Per-Ake Persson It appears that Gianluca Branco's defence of the EBU welterweight title December 12 vs Paulie Malignaggi is off. The champion will next face mandatory challenger Leonard Bundu and the EBU will open purse bids December 29 at noon. The 45-year old Branco haven't fought since winning the title in November of last year. ******************** French middleweight Karim Achour was suspended for two years by the EBU after a positive dopingtest November 24. However, the French Boxing Federation will investigate the matter further andhold a hearing with Achour January 6. The EBU have at their council meeting this past weekend decided to lift the suspension until there is formal communication with the French Federation. Achour is also reinstaded as EU champion. ******************** Lightheavy Dominic Boesel (20-0) defends the WBO I/C title for the sixth time in the headliner of SES promotion January 23 in Halle an der Saale. In the chief support Felix Lamm (10-1-1) and Philipp Schuster (22-2-2) will again do battle for the German welterweight title. Their first fight ended in a draw. ******************** Former IBF superbantam champion Kiko Martinez (34-6) is looking for his third straight win since losing to Scott Quigg this past summer December 12 at the Palau de Vall D`Hebron in Barcelona. To save the promotion with over 9000 tickets sold and PPV in both Finland and Germany the parties involved have with the approval from the EBU reached a solution that reads as follows: Teper relinquish the title and allow stablemate Franz Rill, who was lined up to fight Salvatore Erittu for the vacant EU title on the same show, to fight Helenius for the now vacant EBU title. ******************** SES join forces with Pollex Box Promotion and begin the new year with a show January 9 at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin. Topping the bill is WBO European heavyweight champ Michael Wallisch (15-0) in a title defence against an opponent to be announced. ******************** Part of the big show in Levallois Perre that was set for November 21 but cancelled after the terrorist attacks have have now been rescheduled for December 17 and moved to Cirque d´Hiver in Paris.
