Russian cruiser Igor Michalkin, 13-1, have signed a ten fight promotional deal with EC Box Promotion in Hamburg writes boxen-heute.de. Michalkin´s first fight for EC takes place in Paris July 5 against Doudou Ngumbu, 31-4, with the WBO I/C title at stake.
Michalkin (pictured), then with Spotlight Boxing, beat Ngumbu on a close decision back in December of 2009 and then lost to Aleksyi Kuziemsky and was out of action for over a year before returning last year.
Ngumbu won the WBO I/C title with an upset win over Vyacheslav Uzelkov in Ukraine in March and fighting on the road is nothing uncommon for the Frenchman, who however lost at home Nadjib Mohammedi in a fight for the WBFed title.
Sauerland´s show on Saturday shapes up very interestingly. In the main event we have Marco Huck vs Ola Afolabi III and an all out brawl is expected. Afolabi have the skills to upset the WBO champ but may lack physical strength and that is something that trainer Fritz Sdunek have been working on.
In the chief support IBF I/C lightheavy champ Robert Woge, 11-0, defending the title against Pole Dariusz Sek, 19-0-1, who´s just been announced as opponent replacing Bob Ajisafe. It all depends how prepared Sek is because Woge knows only one way of fighting and that is straight ahead and he´s right in your face all fight long and while he may not be the best fighter in the Sauerland stable he is probably the most exciting.
The show kicks off at 6 PM with ten rounder between unbeaten cruisers, Iago Kiladze, 20-0, and Youri Kayembre Kalenga, 15-0, and that is followed by cruiser Noel Gevor, the stepson of Khoren Gevor, who is 7-0 and take on tough Argentinian Juan Manuel Garay and then follows lightheavy Enrico Koelling, 7-0, and supermiddle Tyron Zeuge, 7-0, in learning fights against Armin Dollinger, 21-3 and David Sarabia, 6-3-1, respectively.
Eduard Gutknecht go for the vacant WBA I/C lightheavy title against Richard Vidal. This title was previously held by Dustin Dirks, who lost to Oleksandr Cherviak but as Cherviak came in overweight the title became vacant.
EBU heavyweight champ and IBF # 1 Kubrat Pulev have been waiting for a long time for his fight for the mandatory challenger position and finally seemed set to face Tyson Fury, who however pulled out of the fight just ahead of the purse bids. Pulev is now in a position where he must wait again. At EBU level stablemate Robert Helenius was ruled to be mandatory challenger to the winner of Pulev vs Fury but the Nordic Nightmare is still injured and not expected back until after the summer break.
As for Pulev, Sauerland CEO Chris Meyer says that they will have to wait for the EBU and IBF say and then go from there.
