Feb 26, Diriyah, SA, D Arena 12x3: Badou Jack, 90,6, Swe/UAE TKO 12 (0-54) Ilunga Makabu, 90,0, Kon Jack won the WBC title when he hurt the tiring champion with a sharp counter right in the final round. Makabu stumbled backwards and took a beating along the ropes when referee Mark Lyson stopped it - at about the right time. The fight was relatively even in the first eight and while Makabu suffered a knockdown in the fourth it was more an off balance thing than anything else. Makabu landed with more punches but Jack was sharper - and stepped it up in the last four while Makabu faded. Ilunga was floored in the eleventh as well and this was more real. He was told he needed a knockout going into the last round to win. He tried but failed and was a spent force at the end. Jack, trained by Jonathon Banks, on the other hand fought the perhaps best fight of his career.

Feb 25, Holstebro, DEN; Graakjaer Arena, TK Promotion 10x2: Dina Thorslund, 53,2, Holstebro, Den TKO 8 (1.12) Debora Anahi Lopez, 52,9, Arg Thorslund retained the WBO female bantamweight title in a very one-sided mismatch. Lopes, up from light flyweight / flyweight had nothing to offer against the strong champion, who is down from featherweight. Lopex kept running, complained about a headbutt / clash of heads in the 5th and the referee stopped in the 8th for the same thing. No-one got hurt and some ringsiders said that Lopex could have entered the ring without gloves as she didn't punch anyway - but it wasn't that bad. 70-62x3 Thorslund after seven. 8x3: Jacob Bank, 76,1, Den TKO 4 (0.01) Taras Golovashchenko, 75,2, Ukr/Ger Golovashchenko retired after the third and was second best throughout. Bank moved well, jabbed and had his opponent reeling but never once tried to follow up. 8x3: Viktor Trush, 90,6, Ukr/Cze TKO 4 (2.12) Ditlev Rossing, 90,6, Den Trush, a southpaw, boxed well behind the jab and Rossing looked frustrated. In the third Trush opened up but Rossing fired back with a big right hand. Trush went down but got up and the Dane went all out in trying to finish it (probably sensing he was running out of gas). He didn't and came out for the fourth a spent force. Trush worked him over patiently until it was stopped. End of the line it seems for the once promising Rossing, who between fights have had problems with drugs. 8x3: Payman Akbari, 60,0, Den D8-S Danny Jensen, 59,9, Den /6-75 Jensen, 76-76 and 77-75 Akbari in an exciting, close fight, for the vacant Danish lightweight title. Jensen, now 1-0-1, was the stronger and tougher while Akbari had the better skills but only used it every now and then. Jensen had a point deducted in the 7th for punching after break. Akbari reacted badly under pressure but dug deep and came back towards the end. A rematch is in the making. 6x3: Mikkel Nielsen, 67,8, Den W6-U Konstantin Jangavadze, ?, Geo Jangavadze stepped in a few days notice for the injured Norwegian Jamshid Nazari. Nielsen, the bigger man, won the first three clearly but slacked off and Jangavadze came back and had the Dane under some pressure in the 4th and 5th. Nielsen came back in the 6th to secure the win though. It was scored 58-56 and 59-55 twice. 8x3: Jeppe Möller Christensen, 89,3, Den W8-M Marcos Karalidzky, 87,0, Arg 77-75 twice and 76-76 and a bad decision was a fact. I had it 78-74 for Karalidzky, who outpunched the agressive and brave but wide open Christensen, who kept coming and was in excellent shape, strong, tough - but he can't fight much and more fights like this will hurt him down the road. Karalidzky was rather slow but made Christensen miss and threw heavy hooks from both hands. Both had some success with uppercuts but it was the Argentinian who got the best of most exchanges.
