Chavez Jr. to make first defense in the Mexico City.
The Sinaloan Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, the reigning Middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council, announced via Twitter (@ jcchavezjr1) that he’ll be making the first defense of his green and gold belt in Mexico City with an opponent yet to be confirmed, although they’re trying make it happen in the Zocalo in the heart of Mexico City.
"Who do you want me to fight with in September in the City?" the son of 'The Legend' asked his supporters on the social network.
Campeche and Queretaro sound like possible cities that would be happy to take on JC Jr. for his first title defense of the WBC middleweight belt.
Chavez Jr. a few weeks ago wrested the world title away from Sebastian Zbik by beating him on the scorecards in a fight that took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Froch vs Ward could be in Las Vegas or Atlantic City.
The Promoter Dan Goossen said the final of Showtime's "Super Six World Boxing Classic" could be in Atlantic City on October 29. The undefeated Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KOs) from Oakland, California and the English champion the super middleweight Carl Froch of the World Boxing Council will fight in the championship double elimination tournament of 168 pounds that began nearly two years ago.
Ward easily outpointed Armenian Arthur Abraham (32-3, 26 KOs) in the semifinals on May 14 in Carson, California. Froch (28-1, 20 KOs) defeated Glen Johnson (51 15-2, 35 KOs) convincingly in the other semifinal of 12 rounds on June 4 in the Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Goossen said the site for the Ward-Froch fight will be decided next week. However, it should be between the Boardwalk Hall and a site and not determined in Las Vegas.
None of the fighters agreed to fight in the opponent's hometown, where more fans could be attracted much more than in Atlantic City or Las Vegas.
