Undefeated rising junior welterweight stars Frankie Gomez of East Los Angeles, Calif. and Chicago’s “EL Tigre” Adrian Granados will clash in the eight round main event on Friday, August 26 at “Sůlo Boxeo Tecate”: Windy City Fight Night 18 at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion.
Just 19 years old, the heavy-handed Gomez has impressively won his first ten bouts, eight by knockout, since turning professional in April 2010. Fighting since the age of eight, Gomez tore through the amateurs, winning a National championship in 2009 and a Silver medal in that year’s world championships. In 2010, he began his professional journey and has continued to dazzle fight fans with his power, speed and aggression. The rising star is coming off of a devastating fourth round stoppage of Khadaphi Proctor on July 1 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., and is looking forward to his Chicago debut in August
Born and raised in nearby Cicero, Illinois, the 21-year-old Granados, (6-0-1, 4KO’s) has been a fan favorite of Chicago fight fans since his professional debut in September 2008. Having previously trained under the tutelage Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain along side legendary boxing brothers Juan Manuel and Rafael Marquez, the all-action Granados has drawn huge crowds at the UIC Pavilion with his exciting performances. In his last outing on July 15, Granados looked dominant, scoring a six round decision victory over Antton Slaughter in Burbank, Ill.

STACKED UNDERCARD SET FOR CHICAGO’S
CHICAGO, IL - Chicago boxing fans are anxiously counting down the days to the return of ‘S”LO BOXEO TECATE’: WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT18 on Friday, August 26 at the UIC Pavilion and with good reason, as Golden Boy Promotions and 8 Count Productions are bringing a sensational undercard to Chicago.
The main event pits undefeated former amateur standouts, Frankie Gomez, (10-0, 8 KO’s) of East Los Angeles and Chicago’s Adrian “EL Tigre” Granados, (6-0-1, 4 KO’s) in an eight roundjunior welterweight battle.
In the televised co-main event, lightweight Omar “Panterita” Figueroa(13-0-1, 9 KO’s) will put his undefeated record on the line against the battle-testedMarcos Herrera (6-6-1, 2KO’s)) ofArvada, Colorado.
Fighting out of South Texas town of Weslaco, 21-year-old Figueroa will be making his second appearance at the UIC Pavilion. In his last bout in the Windy City, he stopped Anthony Woods in thesecond round on December 12, 2009 on the undercard of the Juan “Baby Bull” Diazvs. Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi bout. Figueroa is coming off of a hard-fought eight round decision win over Eric Cruz on June 17 in Hidalgo, Texas.
The upset-minded Herrera will lookto get back in the win column, having gone the distance with undefeated Irish top prospect Jamie Kavanagh on July 23 in Las Vegas, dropping a hotly contested sixround decision.
Two rising stars in welterweight division will see action in separate bouts as Chicago’s Luis Santiago (2-1, 1 KO) faces Clifford “The Magician” McPherson (2-4-1, 1 KO) of Cleveland, Ohio ina four round battle and pro debuting DanielSotelo challenges Hinckley, Minnesota’s Ronnie Fuentez (0-1).
Also appearing in separate boutswill be two undefeated prospects in hard-hitting, Emanuel Steward trained, junior middleweight Tony Harrison (3-0, 3 KO’s)of Detroit, Michigan and Chicago-based junior featherweight Juan Carlos Fernandez (1-0-1). Harrison and Fernandez are scheduled in separate four round fights against opponents tobe determined.
