The survivors of the WBC Champions Challenge claim to be ready for the second round
The eight survivors of the WBC Champions Challenge, organized by Mapi Entertainment, ended their preparation towards the second round of the tournament, which is tantamount to the round of quarterfinals.
The Panamanian Roberto VŠsquez, the American Sergio Perales , the Uruguayan Caril Herrera, the Dominican Carlos Fulgencio and the Mexicana Oscar GonzŠlez, Gregorio Torres, Genaro Camargo and Pedro Melo declared themselves ready for the next challenge of reality show that will reward the champion with 100 000 dollars.
Four battles is what the program for this Saturday will offer in the AgustŪn MillŠn gym of the same city, where Mexicans will face foreigners for the ticket to the next round.
The fighters, who in recent days moved their headquarters from the CNAR to the Otomi Ceremonial Center in Temoaya, State of Mexico, met this Tuesday in a press conference with the local media to discuss their expectations for the duels on Saturday. The lengthy concentration of nearly one and a half month begins to wreak havoc on the fighters, who in addition to the demands of training and fighting, start to miss their families, since they have been 100 % focused in the WBC Champion Challenge.
The Texan Sergio Perales, for example, has had some difficult days as the youngest of his two daughters learned to walk last week, while he was away from home. The so called “Time to Shine” had to learn everything from photos on Facebook and phone calls, which makes him feel nostalgic.
However, as is the case of the other seven remaining competitors, Perales remains on the ball with the illusion of becoming champion and grasping the juicy $100,000 check, plus the option to be eligible for a world championship fight in the super bantamweight division, WBC version.
“I miss my wife and my two duaghters very much, yet, in the end I’m here because I want a better future for them. I can’t waste the opportunity that Mapi Entertainment and the WBC are giving me. I’m ready to win on Saturday and stay alive in the tournament” said the fighter from Texas.
One of the aces for Mexico, the native of Sonora, Gregorio Torres, reported to be in good condition after he suffered a cut under his left eyebrow, caused by a headbutt with the Philippine Narciso Morales, halting the fight in the first round and decreeing technical draw.
“I feel in great shape. It was just a scratch, it’s not a deep cut. I’m ready to show my ability on the ring” declared “Goyo”, who advanced to the second round since he suffered a minor damage compared to the Phillipine Morales, whom after the headbutt had a severe bleeding and thus would not be able to participate in the upcoming bouts.
