Universum´s show at the DIMA Sport Center in Hamburg September 24 is billed as "Universum is Back" and feature outside of Dimitrenko vs Sprott a strong undercard with heavyweights Denis Boytsov and Juan Carlos Gomez, cruiser Rahkim Chakiev, jr light Vitali Tajbert and featherweights Marcel Meyerdiecks and Ina Menzer. Boytsov take on Matthew Greer and Gomez is in against Darnell Wilson. Chakiev square off against Michael Simms while opponents will be announced for Tajbert, Meyerdiecks and Menzer. As a promoter Universum is indeed back after a brief layoff while the new gym was constructed but the lack of a TV deal at home in Germany makes the future still a bit uncertain even if the stable is strong with many fighters on the verge of world title fights. A statue of the former heavyweight champion of the World, Ingemar Johansson, will be unveiled tomorrow (Sep 17) at the Ullevi Sports Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Ingo knocked out among others Henry Cooper and Eddie Machen. The statue shows the champ having thrown his powerful right and weighs about 400 kg. Las Vegas-based Swedish supermiddle Badou Jack, 7-0 and promoted by DiBella Entertainement, have his next fight set for October 21 with site and opponent to be announced. Jack is trained by Eddie Mustafa Muhammad who is sure Badou is a future world champ. SES have female world champs Susi Kentikian and Christina Hammer headlining their show in Frankfurt / Oder October 21. Opponents for the ladies will be announced. 40+ Finnish middleweight veteran Kai Kauramaki headlines along with lightheavy Sami Selesmaa a show in Pori, Finland, November 21. Kauramaki have made it a career of winning at home and losing on the road being a good enough opponent but not a real threat to the local hero. EBU supermiddle champ Piotr Wilczewski defends the title against James DeGale in Liverpool October 15. It´s a voluntary defence by the champ and mandatory challenger for the winner of Wilczewski-DeGale is Italian veteran Cristian Sanavia, WBC champ for a few months back in 2004. Flyweight veterans Rafael Lozano, 41, and Giuseppe Laganà, 40, clash for the vacant EU title October 7 in Cagliari, Italy. Lozano participated in three Olympic games, 92-96-00, before turning pro in 2001. By Per-Ake-Persson |
