Vassell retains Commonwealth title on points against ColombanDenton Vassell successfully defended his Commonwealth welterweight title for the second time with a unanimous points win over awkward Australian based Cameroonian Samuel Colomban in Oldham on Saturday night. Vassell 27, won 117-112, 116-112, 116-112 but he was made to work hard for the win throughout the fight and he was warned three times for low blows and had a point deducted for it in round three.
In the end Vassell's pace and energy was enough to hurt and slow down his tough opponent to retain his belt. Vassell's body punching was a significent factor in his work, but Colomban was tough, he had not come to be just an easy touch import challenger, he wanted Vassell's tilte!
