Guerro loses his IBF titleJuan Carlos Sanchez won the IBF super-flyweight title when he beat Rodrigo Guerro in Sinaloa, Mexico, on Saturday night. Sanchez won by scores of 116-112, 119-109 and 115-113 to take his record to 14-2-1, including seven knockouts. Guerrero’s record dropped to 17-4; 10. Daniel Rosas also provided a fine performance when he beat Fernando Vergas on a split decision over eight rounds in a super-bantamweight bout. Rosas improved to 13-0-1; 9 and Vargas now stands at 15-7-2; 11. Two other promising fighters, Demetrius Andrade and Raymond Serrano, retained their unblemished records at the weekend. Andrade stopped Angel Hernandez in the second round of a light-middleweight bout in Uncasville, Connecticut, to remain undefeated after 16 fights. Rated No 9 by the WBO, Andrade has now knocked out 11 of his opponents. Hernandez, now 30-11; 17, was knocked down early in the second round and referee Steve Smoger stopped the bout when he went down again. Serrano also kept his record free of defeats when he beat Kenny Abril (11-5-1; 6) on points over ten rounds in a welterweight bout. Serrano now stands at 18-0, with 8 stoppage wins. OTHER WEEKEND RESULTS In Bethnal Green in London, Kevin Mitchell improved his record to 33-1, including 24 knockouts, when he beat Felix Lora (14-9-5; 8) on points over ten rounds. Mitchell is No 1 on the WBO’s list of lightweights. In Wolverhampton, England, Adil Anwar (16-1; 7) beat Tyrone Nurse (22-1; 4) on a unanimous decision over three rounds in the final of a Prizefighter light-welterweights competition to win the main prize of about R390 000. In Hamburg, Germany, former WBA super-middleweight champion Dimitri Sartison improved his record to 28-1; 18 when he knocked out Caicedo Vernaza (4-3-1; 4) in the fourth round. On the same card, cruiserweight Kai Kurzawa (28-4; 20) knocked out Levan Jomardashvili (25-6; 18) in the fourth round. Earlier heavyweight Christian Hammer (10-3; 6) stopped Serdar Uysal (13-16-2; 6) in the second. In Palm Bay, Florida, Orlando Cruz improved to 18-2-1; 9 when he knocked out Alejandro Delgado (15-6; 7) in the 11th round to win the WBO Latin featherweight title.
