Billy Dib pummels Eduardo Escobedo to successfully retain IBF featherweight gold
Australia’s number one featherweight, Billy Dib, went in the ring and achieved the unthinkable by severely pounding the Mexican WBC silver super featherweight champion, Eduardo Escobedo, and authoritatively defended his IBF featherweight title for the second consecutive time.
The bout was responsible to co-headline the pay-per-view which was televised on Australian Main Event and was on aired on March 7, 2012. The ring for the championship skirmish was stretched at Derwent Entertainment Centre situated in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
Both men are considered as top-notch, high profiled featherweight brawlers in fact Billy secures the fifth place in world rankings and Eduardo sits at 18th place. Many critics considered the bout as a one-sided one and were seriously concerned about the well being of the young Billy.
Billy was hypothecated as the loser since Eduardo has is considered as the most powerful, brutal and lethal jabber in the division. But Dib, infamous as ‘The Kid’, knew all these aspects and at the end of the day he did startle not only his own fellow countrymen but the whole world as well by collecting a huge upset win.
Both men were entering in their career’s 36th bout but there was a slight difference in the experience that the duo possessed. Eduardo boasts wins over many powerful names when compared to Dib’s portfolio of nailed men.
It was this reason why before the bout, Eduardo denoted Dib as a ‘little pussy’ who has brawled men are considered as rookies in the division. Eduardo, well known as the ‘Canilla’, was right about this fact but Billy said something which he later on proved in the ring.
Billy replied that he is a ‘monster’ in the featherweight division and speculated that Wednesday night will be Eduardo’s most horrific night. The young Aussie’s performance later on proved that he was right about every single word he uttered and battered the Mexican 28-year-old brutally from the very first round.
Billy did not grant any kind of leverage to Eduardo and took full advantage of his height and therefore the reach. The pummelling was so harsh and effective that Eduardo’s camp called off the bout after the end of just the sixth round. The reason, might possibly, was the vicious beating that made Escobedo somewhat senseless and eventually blurred his mind.
Billy now has a huge emphatic win in his resume and will now try to take on the winner of the WBO title bout which will take place on March 10, 2012. This was Dib’s 14th consecutive win and the young Aussie now has a total 34 wins in his account out of 36. Eduardo, however, was unable to defend his 11-bout win streak and now has four losses out of a total 36.
