Frampton overpowers Ankrah to retain super-bantamweight title
Rising Irish star Carl Frampton produced another devastating performance when he stopped Ghana's Prosper Ankrah in the second round of his Commonwealth super-bantamweight title defence at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on Saturday.
Impressive: Carl Frampton
The Barry McGuigan-managed champion relentlessly pursued the challenger across the ring and having controlled the opening exchanges he sent the Ghanian to the canvas with his crushing hooks, bringing about a stoppage at 2:45 of the second.
Frampton, who knocked out Scotland's Kris Hughes in January, says he is now tracking a big domestic unification title fight with British super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg who was at ringside in Sheffield.
'I want Quigg but I don't believe he wants it. He has seen the power I have and he knows that I would knock him out,' said Frampton.
'You saw tonight again the power that I have. Once I catch him up with anybody they're going over. I'm making it clear that the fight I want next is Scott Quigg, it's the fight the public want to see.
'But he's managed by the Hattons and they are shrewd so they will probably keep him away from me.'
Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan added: 'Look we can talk around this but the fact is Carl wants the fight with Quigg and I want it for him so it's up to Quigg to come forward and take it.'
Also in Sheffield, Welshman Kerry Hope produced a stunning upset victory over Poland's Grzegorz Proksa to land the European middleweight champion on a majority points decision.
Proksa suffered a nasty cut over his left eye at the end of the second round due to an accidental clash of heads, while Hope was deducted a point for aiming his head at the Pole at the end of the eighth round before going on to take the title with the judges scoring it, 115-112, 114-113, 114-114.
