Carl Froch dismisses record of IBF champion boxer Lucian Bute ahead of Nottingham fightExclusive: Carl Froch dismissed Lucian Bute’s unbeaten 30-fight record on Thursday, insisting that he is the first ‘big name’ the Romanian, who is based in Canada, has faced.By Gareth A Davies - telegraph.co.uk Going out swinging: Carl Froch believe he is the only big name Lucian Bute has faced in in the IBF champion's career Photo: LONSDALE “He has had a couple of half-decent fights, but nothing like this," 34-year-old Froch told The Telegraph. "This fight is the first one that stands out. “Lucien Bute has wins against all the people he has fought – he’s a winner – but there’s no real names on there that you can go 'wow, he beat him, he beat him'." “Brian Magee was an OK win, Glen Johnson was an OK win, but they are not Mikkel Kessler or Andre Ward. Or Andre Dirrell, or Jean Pascal, for that matter. His past opponents are not on that level. It’s the first time he has had to test himself against a top name. “I’m a name on his record. But I’ve got to make sure that name – mine – doesn’t end with an ‘L’ next to it.” Bute, who is defending the IBF 12-stone title for the tenth time - and only the second time outside Quebec - has a re-match clause should he lose. Froch, who has twice held the WBC title, but lost it after defeats to Kessler and Ward, explained: “If I beat him in Nottingham, I’m going to have to defend the IBF title against him in Canada. It is part of the contract. So that’s first and foremost. But the key here is a win puts me back into contention with one of the top four belts. It’s just a matter of getting back on to the world scene.” Froch, who was “just cutting the grass at home” on Thursday when he spoke exclusively to Telegraph Sport, insisted that he was “jaded from both training camp and being in America like it was groundhog day” when he fought, and lost, in a world unification fight against Ward in Atlantic City on December 17. He insists he feels fresh from fighting – and training at home – for the first time since 2009.
