On December 15 I reported on a result from Riga, Latvia, December 11. In a middleweight fight scheduled for eight rounds Akilles Adnan, from Stockholm, Sweden and fighting with a Swedish license stopped a fighter billed as Vame Kartveli, also based in Stockolm but fighting with a Polish license, in seven. It seemed to be quite an upset with Adnan, 2-1, beating his more experienced and accomplished former gym- and stablemate.
I hinted there was more to come in regards of Kartveli and his identity and shortly after the fight rumors began to fly that there had been something strange happening in Riga that night.
Vassili Boguslavski, trainer and manager for Adnan and former trainer and manager for Kartveli, called me to angrily ask if it was me who was spreading out the rumor that it hadn´t been Kartveli fighting in Latvia. Well, I told him the truth - I had nothing to do with that.
Today, evening paper Aftonbladet brings a big story on the fight and Kartveli is interviewed. Vame claims he wasn´t there and as evidence there´s pictures from the fight showing another fighter (rumored to be a stablemate of Adnan). Kartveli also shows receipts from his credit card used the same evening in Stockholm as he was supposed to be in Riga fighting.
Vame Kartveli, 10-0 in the pros and Swedish champ 2009, claims Boguslavski is trying to wreck his career and get to back to him after their split.
Boguslavski in his turn claims all is a lie, and insist it was Kartveli in the ring in Riga that night.
The story doesn´t end here. There´s also continued rumors on Kartveli and his identity. He claims to be from the Georgian Republic but this is apparently not the whole truth, which makes it a case for the Swedish Immigration and police as well.
An investigation will follow: The Latvian Federation confirms that a fighter with a Swedish license fought one with a Polish license and says it was a good fight. And as for who was who the Latvians are happy to leave the matter to the Swedish and Polish Federations.
WBO lightheavy champ Juergen Braehmer have pulled out of the unification fight against Beibut Shumenov due to illness. Braehmer vs Shumenov was set for January 8 in Shymkent, Kazachstan.
