21 January 2011 Club Los Indios, Moreno, Buenos Aires, Argentina promoter: Argentina Boxing Promotions (Mario Margossian) matchmaker: Luis Pagani Chaves barely beats Wis World ranked Diego Chaves, 17-0-0 (13 KOs), of Argentina retained his WBO Latino welterweight title by defeating former contender and fellow countryman Omar Weis, 40-11-4 (17KOs), in an extremley close fight. The 24-year-old Chaves had all he could handle from the 38-year-old Weis. Weis dropped Chaves in round seven. Chaves beat the count but had to do all he could to survive the round as he was badly hurt. In round ten, a bad cut was opened on Weis’ right eye but the ringside doctor ruled he was fit to continue. Both fighters closed the final two rounds as if it were the beginning of the fight. Great action fight from beginning to end. All three judges favored Chaves 115-112, 115-112, and 114-113. |
