Guerrero dominated a brutal fight with his sharp, accurate punching. Katsidis was deducted two points for low blows in round eight. Guerrero was deducted a point for a low blow in round nine. Maidana wins WBA Interim belt(by Andreas Hale, Photo Sumio Yamada - Apr 11, 2011 - 8:14:29 AM)
In a fight for the ages, super lightweight Marcos Maidana (30-2, 27 KOs) took a hard-fought twelve round majority decision over legendary three-division world champion Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KOs) to regain the vacant interim WBA title on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Maidana punished Morales in round one, causing “El Terrible’s” right eye to swell shut. Morales landed some shots in round two, but Maidana still dominated the round. Morales slowly started working his way back into the fight, however, and clearly won round five. Morales rocked Maidana with a left hook in round eight. The fight seemed close entering the championship rounds. Maidana was much busier in rounds eleven and twelve and pulled it out by scores of 114-114, 116-112, 116-112.
Maidana-Morales make weight(by Rick Reeno - Apr 9, 2011 - 7:25:42 AM)
The weights are in for today's big HBO pay-per-view. In the main event, former three division champion Erik Morales (51-6, 35KOs) will face Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27KOs) for the vacant interim-WBA super lightweight title. Morales, who appeared a bit drained, came in at 140-pounds on the nose. Maidana was ripped, and also came in at 140. In the co-feature, for the vacant WBA interim-lightweights title, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (28-1-1, 18KOs) came in at 134-pounds. Michael Katsidis (27-3, 22KOs) was also 134-pounds. Both fighters are in great shape, but Guerrero has the look of a welterweight.
Action Heroes final presser(by Andreas Halle, Photo Chris Cozzone - Apr 8, 2011 - 3:01:22 PM)
Saturday night’s junior welterweight clash between hard hitting Marcos Maidana and surefire hall of famer Erik Morales sounds like something that would have been epic . . . if it took place when Morales was at his prime. But in 2011, a battle-worn Morales is thought to be nothing more than cannon fodder for a wrecking machine like Maidana. But “El Terrible” advises you to not count him out. He’s not dead yet.
“What are odds?” Oscar De La Hoya asked during Thursday’s final press conference before Maidana and Morales step into the ring under the bright lights of the MGM Grand Garden Arena for a card billed as “Action Heroes.” “Did we care about odds when Kelly Pavlik fought Bernard Hopkins? Did we care about odds when Manny Pacquiao fought myself? Holyfield Vs. Tyson? Buster Douglas against Mike Tyson? Odds don’t mean a thing because in this fight game, you never know what’s going to happen.”
While that statement is true, we might be selling Morales short by comparing him to Buster Douglas. He is, after all, a legend. With a record of 57-6 with 35 knockouts and a portfolio that includes Marco Antonio Barrera, Kevin Kelley, Junior Jones, Wayne McCullough and, must we forget, he is the last man to defeat Manny Pacquiao, is it really that easy discard him as an unworthy opponent?
"After so many interviews, I am starting to say to myself, 'Was this the right decision?” Morales said as he took the podium to discuss his fight for the interim WBA super lightweight title. “Am I the only crazy one that thinks I can win? When I am alone at night lying in bed, I start thinking to myself, I am not wrong.”
Marquez new WBA champion(by Rafael Soto - Apr 3, 2011 - 12:00:38 PM)
In a firefight, Hernan “Tyson” Marquez (30-2, 23 KOs) dethroned WBA flyweight champion Luis “El Nica” Concepcion (22-2, 17 KOs) on Saturday night at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama. In a wild first round both Marquez and Concepcion were on the deck. Concepcion had Marquez in trouble at the end of round two, but Marquez dropped Concepcion for a second time in round three. The back and forth action continued until round ten when Marquez dropped Concepcion again. The bout was stopped at the beginning of round eleven by the ringside physician. Marquez had entered the bout rated #9.

Undefeated French boxer Hassan N'Dam successfully defended his interim WBA middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Giovanni Lorenzo of the Dominican Republic on Saturday. N'Dam (26-0) caught Lorenzo with a big left hook in the third round, then had Lorenzo backing off in the fifth and sixth as Lorenzo struggled to match his tempo. N'Dam scored 119-110, 116-110 and 119-109 on the judges' cards.
