Emanuele DELLA ROSA, Italy W UD 12 Daniel Urbanski , Poland
by Mr Salvatore Cherchi, OPI 2000
Emanuele Della Rosamade a successful first defence of his WBC International 154 Lbs title with a brilliant and clear unanimous point decision against brave and strong Daniel Urbanski(Poland).
At the official weigh-in the day before the fight, the champion had no problems to comply with the limit and scaled Kgs. 69.600 in his first attempt. The challenger had to weigh-in twice, as in his first attempt he scaled Kgs. 70.900 (the superwelter limit is Kgs. 69.853). After two hours, Urbanski scaled 69.800 to comply with the official weight limit.
The fight turned out to ve very exciting, as the challenger came to win and never gave up trying.
But, this time the champion managed to control his pace and the judges eventually had no problems to provide him with a clear unanimous decision.
Actually, the scoring did not reflect the quality of the fight. But, judges are there to score round by round the fight and they certainly did a good job.
After the verdict was announced, there were no complains from the Polish team. In round five (5) referee Massimo Barrovecchio had to deduct one point from the challenger. An accidental clash of heads caused a nasty cut on the champion’s eyebrow.
The referee correctly applied the WBC rule and deduct one point from the challenger. In round ten (10) a left body shot from Della Rosa dropped thechallenger for the count.
With the previous official warning and that knockdown, an automatic advantage of at least three points for the champion was sure, further to what already scored in the other rounds.
Finally, the scoring was :
judge Ventsislav Nikolov (Bulgaria) 119-107
judge Roger Tilleman (Belgium) 120-106
judge Fabian Guggenheim (Suisse) 119-107
Referee: Massimo Barrovecchio Italy
Supervisor: Mauro Betti
Promoter: Salvatore Cherchi, OPI 2000 Milan
Physician: Italo Guido Ricagni Italy
Timekeepers: Antonio Maggiore and Sandro Nardini
Della Rosa showed significant improvements, as he did not make the same mistakes he made when he won the vacant title last December. This time he was cool enough to control the situation from the first bell, expecially when in round five he suffered a nasty cut on his left eyebrow. He improved to 27 wins (8 K0s) in 28 bouts, with his only defeat suffered in Germany in 2009 against WBC champ Sebastian Zbik at 160 pounds.
Urbanski dropped to 20 (5)-5-3.
